A message from TXPOST:

First, please help us contact Sens. Cornyn and Cruz to sign on to the Dear Colleague letter being circulated by Sens. Murkowski and Boxer. Two Republicans are already on it which is great however we need more from each party – on and off HELP Committee. Secondly – we need cosponsors on the Boxer-Murkowski Afterschool for America’s Children Act. Info below:

* (21C Boxer Murkowski letter) – An effort to preserve 21st CCLC is being led by Lisa Murkowksi (R – Alaska) and Senator Boxer (D – Calif.) They are orchestrating a letter to Senator Alexander asking him to preserve 21st CCLC. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R- West Virginia) is already on the letter as is Sen. Feinstein (D-CA). We know that Senator Alexander’s staff is open to preserving the 21C funding stream if he hears from enough members. The letter is attached – if your Senator wants to be on the letter they should contact Julia Sferlazzo in Sen Boxer’s office: [email protected]

* If possible it would be great to ask your Senators to cosponsor the newly reintroduced Boxer/Murkowski bill to bring 21st CCLC into the 21st Century – improvements to the current law – no funding levels. We have two Rs on the bill already Murkowski and Capito and one Dem. Sen Manchin, plus Sen Boxer. The new bill number this year is S. 308. Senators’ staff can contact Julia Sferlazzo in Sen Boxer’s office: [email protected] to sign on to the bill as well.

And thank you for those organizations who signed on to the Alexander sign-on letter – that is attached and had more than 260 groups on it. If your organization would like to sign on, please contact me: [email protected]

Thank you for your concerns for children’s future and continued advocacy efforts to protect crucial youth serving programs like the 21st CCLC.
